ABOUT US

Just some plant nerds with a passion.

Hey friends, I'm Mike, the guy behind 7Hz Gardens. Outside of a bit of help from friends and family on projects or day to day business logging, it's just me.

I've been married to my wife, Steph, since 2012. She's been my biggest champion and supporter, always there when I absolutely needed it. She knows the business end of things so I get to learn from her.

We're plant nerds, constantly researching/experimenting with plant combinations using perennials from the Midwest or region tolerant (as long as they behave) and food crops. You can get some really great combos with a little imagination!

The decision was made to go back to school for horticulture in Dec. 2019 at Gateway Technical College. Since having an established career in manufacturing, it was time to do more, strive for more, feed the soul.

A chance encounter lead to an opportunity with the Northwind Perennial Farm's gardening team that changed the view of my gardening world. I take the principles learned from there with tight plant communities and little to no mulch use.

I also continue to work my manufacturing job I've been with since 2005. Being on a 12 hour shift schedule allows some freedom to pursue this passion. My schedule is a little weird, but we'll make your project a reality!

Since finishing the program in April 2023, the passion has become creating perennial spaces for families and individuals to enjoy, relax, reflect, and slow down. Hence the 7Hz portion of our name. 7Hz is part of the theta brainwave frequency. It's connected to creativity, intuition, daydreaming, and fantasizing. Additionally, a storehouse for memories, emotions, and sensations. These waves are strong during meditation, prayer, and sleep.

Life can be hectic and frustrating, and we try to put each of those 7Hz attributes into our gardens. We want you to have an emotional connection with your space.

I'm always learning and evolving with gardening, there's always going to be change, and that's the beauty in it.

We were set on this path by God, it's time to take that road.

There is no greater comfort for us than seeing our garden family light up with enthusiasm because their favorite plant or color is in the garden.

I couldn't have gone on this journey without God and family, nor could I imagine not having that support. Thanks Steph, Love you!  Big thanks to all my friends and family who also supported me through this.

Thanks for reading! We look forward to growing with you, as a client, as a friend, and part of our 7Hz Garden family!

The Stuff We Do

Consultation

We're happy to come out and take a look at the space you're planning on having your garden created. This usually takes about an hour and costs $100-$150, depending on distance. This will give us a general idea of growing conditions, and will help to determine the plants we'll use.  From there, we'll discuss site prep options.

Design

The next step in the process, the design phase will finally put all the ideas we have on paper into a concept that's easy to follow. Everything is done by hand, bloom/height charts are created, then the plants are mapped out to scale (usually 1/4" = 1'), then labeled with initials that will match up to a key.

Install

We can prep the site, however, if you feel comfortable doing so, it will save you money.

Install is the fun part, it's where all the planning gets put in the ground. This may be done in phases, due to garden size or plant needs.

After site prep and procurement of the plants selected, we'll get your new plant friends to their new home. We source our plant material from multiple sources, seeking disease free specimens of good genetic stock. Since this industry is highly weather dependent, and stock availability is seasonally dependent, adjustments may be needed for the timing.

Garden Care

Each of our gardens comes with a care sheet, but we'll also go over some of the basics of care during consult, and after install.  If you have any questions or concerns about your new space, please send us an email.

Also, when needed, we are happy to assist you with care. The care includes, spring clean up, pruning, and weeding.

Just a small sample of our work

(It's all we have, help us grow!)

We're just a small start up with one and a half people. The pictures here are from our jobs around south-eastern Wisconsin.

Year one is a young garden (smaller plants), but year two will be amazing as the plants will mature, grow into each other, and thrive leading to a beautiful, lower maintenance garden space.
